Puzzle Mats Help Kids Learn
Puzzle mats, with numbers and letters in big shapes on brightly colored foam puzzle pieces, are a popular addition to daycares, Sunday school rooms, and children’s bedrooms. What you may not realize is that these interlocking mats are more than just fun surfaces for kids to play on.
When you install jigsaw puzzle mats in your child’s play area, or in your daycare, you’re providing kids with a chance to learn numbers, letters, and shapes, while they play. Kids don’t care that these puzzles are teaching them their numbers, or that the interlocking matting, in a puzzle shape, is helping them grasp how pieces work together to form a whole.
Kids also don’t care that foam matting increases their safety, cushioning them against falls and making their rooms and play areas safer. To kids, interlocking puzzle matting is a big term for something they call, simply, “floor.”
But as parents and caregivers, we know that foam matting, when it comes in the shape of jigsaw puzzle pieces, not only keeps our kids safe from bumps and bruises, but also teaches them important lessons about colors, shapes, and their numbers and letters.
Small children don’t realize they’re learning when their teacher tells them to “sit down on that blue square,” but this type of teaching tool, while providing a safe, fun place for kids to play, also helps them pick up concepts that they wouldn’t be interested in if they knew they were learning.
Whether you’re putting new flooring in your home nursery or child’s bedroom, installing interlocking matting in your church play area, or replacing your daycare floor with interlocking mats, using puzzle matting can help you teach kids, keep them safe, and help them have fun, all in one neat, interlocking foam package.
You have many options when you choose flooring, but by choosing foam matting, you’re making a choice that both you and your kids can be happy with for a long time to come.
